My favorite things about Yamagata

EN

A long-established sweets shop that blends Edo traditions with modern Yamagata flavors.

Satoya Honten Branch / 乃し梅本舗 佐藤屋 本店

Established in 1821, Satoya has a history of almost 200 years. Our signature "noshiume" sweet evolved from a plum-based folk medicine which appeared in Yamagata during the Edo period, and we use ripe plums and long-tested methods to make the noshiume that Satoya has long been known for. Our more modern creations, which combine elements of Japanese and Western sweets, have also proved to be very popular, and customers also enjoy viewing the hina dolls and other exhibits we occasionally organize in the storehouse adjoining our shop. Our shop itself was built in the early Showa era, and is recognized as a historic building of Yamagata city.
