Bunshokan, Yamagata Prefecture Local Museum / 山形県郷土館 【文翔館】

Concierge / 池田仁館長

"Bunshokan, formerly the Prefectural Office and Assembly Building, is a brick structure which was constructed in 1916 in the English Neo-Renaissance style. Recognized as an important example of the Western-style architecture of the early Taisho period, the building was designated a National Important Cultural Property in 1984. After undergoing restoration work over a 10-year period beginning in 1986, the building reopened as the ""Bunshokan"" Yamagata Prefecture Local Museum. The Bunshokan is open to the public free of charge, and visitors may request a guided tour of the facility. The assembly hall, courtyard and several galleries and meeting rooms may be rented for use, and we are pleased to serve as a venue for concerts, theatrical performances and exhibitions, to have our premises and environs available for many other local events, and to be a historic facility accessible to the general public for a wide range of cultural events.
